Former Springbok coach Peter de Villiers says Frans Steyn should "immediately" be picked for South Africa.
De Villiers told Netwerk24 the likes of Steyn, Gio Aplon, Heinrich Brussouw and Andries Bekker were players not part of the current setup who would strengthen the Bok squad.
According to De Villiers these players will improve the leadership core of the Boks and are the types of players a coach can rely on when things on the field don't go according to plan.
"I would get Frans Steyn back from France immediately," De Villiers said.
He is Bok rugby's version of Sonny Bill Williams. Bring him back and make sure he's at his best. Frans gives you what Juan Smith, Fourie du Preez and Schalk Burger gave to the Boks when they were at their best.
"They challenged you as a coach. It was difficult to teach them something about the game due to their unbelievable talent and knowledge."
De Villiers expressed his surprise that Brussouw hasn't been called up again since last year's Rugby Championship.
"He is the flank with the best skills in world rugby. He can do everything. You can't cope without him in the Bok team, especially as a fetcher."
Bekker is the one player who's been reluctant in the past to get involved with the Springboks again. He plays for Allister Coetzee's former Japanese club Kobelco Steelers.
"Andries should have played many more Tests for South Africa."
