Jean de Villiers hopes to make his debut for Leicester Tigers before the end of the year.
The former South Africa captain was back in Cape Town over the weekend for the latest leg of the Sevens World Series, but has already settled in Leicester and trained with the Tigers as he recovers from a broken jaw.
The 34-year-old, who played 109 Tests for his country, is contracted with the Premiership side until the end of the season.
“I have already spent two weeks at Leicester and hope to play my first match in two weeks’ time,” De Villiers told Netwerk 24.
“I’m really looking forward to it and I’ve already learnt a lot there. I enjoyed the rest, but you’re always eager to recover from injury.
“The move to England was stressful but I’m looking forward to return to the playing field.”
