Davies hailed by Scarlets boss

Scarlets head coach Wayne Pivac was full of praise for flanker James Davies after he was named Man of the Match in Dublin.

The openside, surprisingly left out of Wales' squad for their tour in June, dominated the contest at the RDS, earning plenty of praise as a result for his efforts.

"I have said from day one he is a fantastic player. I rate him very highly," Pivac told WalesOnline.

"His performances over three seasons now, not one or two weeks like some of the other players, have been top drawer."

Pivac went on to say there was no other openside in Wales that he would rather have in his side than Davies, therefore rating him above Lions captain Sam Warburton as well as Justin Tipuric.

"As a group we support James. If we had a choice between him and other top opensides in the country we would take James every day," he added.

"I think you saw his worth out there. Put him on the wing and he doesn't flinch, he just goes out there and does a job.

"His positioning and reading of the play is fantastic. He has a great skillset and a very, very big heart. Our boys had to dig deep and he was one who did that."
