Davies confident of upset victory

Gareth Davies thinks Scarlets are capable of getting a win against Saracens in the Champions Cup on Saturday.

Scarlets won their opener against Sale Sharks last week while Saracens beat Toulon, but the scrumhalf believes his team can make it two in a row at Allianz Park.

"I think we are quite capable of going up there and coming away with a win," Davies said.

"We've got a great squad now and we did show some glimpses against Sale of how we can play. I am sure we can play similar to how we did but better."

Scarlets' 28-11 win over Sale at Parc y Scarlets was their third successive victory following four straight PRO12 defeats.

"After losing the first three games of the season we were wondering what was going wrong," Davies added.

"We've had four wins on the bounce now and confidence is picking up and that is massively important ahead of the weekend. We have to go into this game confident, otherwise Saracens are going to blow us away and hopefully it's going to be a cracking game.

"We've got a great team of people and when we do click we're just as good as Sarries and anything can happen on the day."

Saracens have lost only once in six Premiership games this season – a 17-10 defeat against Harlequins in September and Davies said that result gave them hope they could do something similar on the Premiership leaders.

"We've looked back over that game and tried to see exactly how Harlequins had beaten them," Davies said.

"We've come away with a couple of ideas and hopefully we can surprise them. It is our job at the end of the day to step up in these big games. We've got a great team on paper and in some of the games we haven't quite clicked but I think we showed some glimpses at the weekend against Sale."
