Former Wales international fly-half Jonathan Davies has backed wing or full-back Liam Williams to be a starter against New Zealand.

Former Wales international fly-half Jonathan Davies has backed wing or full-back Liam Williams to start this weekend’s game against New Zealand.

The 23-year-old free-running Scarlets back, who was impressive against Fiji in last weekend’s win, is in a four-way battle for three starting places.

And Davies believes he should get the nod when the team is announced on Tuesday, with his form simply too good to ignore against the All Blacks.

“I think he has to be in the side,” Davies told BBC Sport ahead of the mouth-watering Test fixture.

“He’s been a form player this year, he’s playing exceptionally well and deserves his spot.

“Does he play at full-back or on the wing? I personally would have a go with him at full back.

“It’s a toss up then – do you play Alex Cuthbert or Halfpenny on the wing?

“If Cuthbert gets the nod, Dan Biggar takes the goal kicks. I think Liam Williams definitely deserves a spot.”
