The Sharks have announced that Bok hooker Bismarck du Plessis will lead the Super Rugby franchise in 2014.
Du Plessis takes over the armband from Keegan Daniel and will get his first chance as skipper in a pre-season friendly against Premiership side Saracens at Allianz Park next Saturday.
“He's a freak and one of the best players in the world,” Sharks director of rugby Jake White said.
“He's a leader by example and I have no doubt he will be a success.”
The Sharks have also named three vice-captains in Odwa Ndungane, Jean Deysel and Pat Lambie.
