Wales winger Alex Cuthbert has rejected the chance to sign a dual contract with the WRU and Cardiff Blues, according to Warren Gatland.
Cuthbert has a year to run on his deal with the Welsh region, prompting speculation that he may look for a move away from the club after next year’s Rugby World Cup.
The 24-year-old has scored 14 tries in 30 Tests for Wales since his debut in 2011.
“Alex has decided not to take a dual contract,” said Gatland.
“He has another year left on his Cardiff Blues deal.
“We offered him a contract and he turned it down for his own reasons.
“There is no pressure on players to take dual contracts. It’s offered to them, and if they don’t want to accept one then it offers the opportunity up to somebody else.
“It won’t affect selection, but there is an obvious advantage to players in terms of the number of games that they play for their regions.”
