Three tries by Crusaders wing Johnny McNicholl paved the way to victory for his side over the Hurricanes in Levin on Friday.
A hat-trick of tries by Crusaders wing Johnny McNicholl paved the way to a 41-15 victory for his side over the Hurricanes in a warm-up match in Levin on Friday.
The Hurricanes opened the scoring through a runaway from Beauden Barrett before McNicholl scored his first try in the 23rd minute after intercepting a wayward 'Canes pass.
Shortly after that try, Crusaders prop Wyatt Crockett was sent to the sin bin for a tip tackle on Alapati Leiua and the Hurricanes soon added another five-pointer when Marty Banks crossed the whitewash.
McNicholl scored his second try in the 31st minute but Ben Franks struck back with a try against his former side which gave the 'Canes a 15-14 lead at half-time.
The Crusaders upped the ante after the break and scored four unanswered tries. McNicholl scored his third try, which put the Crusaders back in front, and replacement back-row Jordan Taufua also got his name on the scoreboard with a brace of tries.
A last-minute try by scrum-half Willi Heinz secured victory for the Crusaders, who start their Super Rugby campaign against the Chiefs in Christchurch next Friday.
