Wallabies fly-half Quade Cooper will miss Saturday’s Test against Wales at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Wallabies fly-half Quade Cooper will miss Saturday’s Test against Wales at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Cooper – who started last weekend’s tour opener against the Barbarians – was originally named as one of eight replacements in Wallabies coach Michael Cheika’s matchday squad for his first Test in charge since taking over the reins from Ewen McKenzie.

But Cooper misses out as Cheika opts for a six-two forwards-backs split. The backs named being veteran scrum-half Will Genia and utility back Rob Horne.

Wallabies skipper Michael Hooper confirmed the forward-laden bench was to help them overpower Wales’ pack.

“I think it’s about finishing strong,” he told AAP.

“We know that the Welsh have a very good back row, a very good forward pack, so I think what our bench shows is we’ve got to finish strong in that area and have a big, physical impact on the game.

“We’ve got guys there like Will (Skelton), Kev (James Horwill), Hodgo (Matt Hodgson), who gets through a hell of a lot of work, that’s what we’ve signified there.”
