Installed at their new state-of-the-art training base, London Irish captain George Skivington wants to break a losing run at Twickenham.

The Exiles have lost their last two matches in the Double Header, both to Saracens, with the squad now out to avoid a third defeat on the bounce.

Irish are heading into the new season full of optimism following some solid signings and with top quality facilities at their disposal, having left Sunbury for Hazelwood.

“We've got everything here,” said Skivington.

“We've got a 4G pitch, which is a pretty big deal, I don't know how many clubs have got one of those. When the bad weather comes we haven't got to head somewhere else, we can just trot on to the next pitch.

“Consistency is the thing we will look for – we put some good results together last year but we lost a lot of games by very small margins and it would be nice to turn that round. We were consistently on the wrong end of that last year – too much so for it to be bad luck.

“We're realistic about where we are as a group but we're working hard and if we can perform week in week out then the results will follow.

“We've not delivered on the last couple of Double Headers. We haven't performed on the day so it's nice to think we could at least do that.

“There will be a bit of spice but it's just another game of rugby, the first one of the season, and everybody is going to be keen as mustard. It's a big ground and a fun occasion as the fans get a good day out.”
