All Black prop Wyatt Crockett has backed his fellow front-ranker Dane Coles for the World Rugby Player of the Year award.

Coles is one of six players nominated for the prestigious award including Beauden Barrett (New Zealand), Owen Farrell (England), Jamie Heaslip (Ireland), Maro Itoje (England) and Billy Vunipola (England).

Crockett was particularly excited that a fellow front-ranker was being nominated.

"It's awesome to see Colesey getting nominated for that," Crockett told AFP.

"He has been playing great footy all this year and the last couple of years so it is thoroughly deserved.

"He probably gets a little bit more kudos than some of his propping mates!" Crockett joked.

"When he came into the All Blacks he had spent a long time trying to get in there and when he came into the group he was really ready to go.

"He has obviously got a bit more experience and confidence to play his natural game, which you see now."
