Springbok flanker Marcell Coetzee has been left out of the Sharks squad to tour New Zealand later this month.
Coetzee, who will join PRO12 side Ulster at the end of the season, went off on a stretcher with a knee injury during Saturday's loss to the Lions in Durban.
The Sharks face the Blues, Highlanders and Chiefs over the next three weeks but for now they look certain to be without Coetzee for some if not all of a tricky tour.
"It's not looking good. He's gone to hospital, he's had a scan… it's not looking great," Gold told Sport24 after Saturday's game.
"We just hope that it's as minor as possible but there does seem to be a little bit of laxness in the knee which does suggest that at very best he won't be ready for next week."
Included in the 27 man squad are front-rowers Chiliboy Ralapelle, Dale Chadwick and Thomas du Toit, all of whom have not yet had a taste of Super Rugby this season, but who all bolster the pack.
They are three of the 16 forwards named to tour, with Director of Rugby Gary Gold and his coaching staff adding 11 backs to the squad.
