Clubs add extra Euro players

EPCR have named the additional players for the knockout stages of the Champions and Challenge Cups.

Four former winners of European club rugby's elite tournament are included in the list for the two tournaments.

Sean O'Brien and Cian Healy, who have already returned to competitive action following injury, will be in contention for starting places when Leinster clash with Bath in the first of the Champions Cup quarter-finals at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, 4 April.

Meanwhile, Frederic Michalak and Craig Burden have been added to the Toulon squad in advance of the Champions Cup holders' quarter-final against Wasps at Stade Felix Mayol on Sunday, 5 April.

Other big names who could appear during the knockout stage include Juan Martin Hernandez of Toulon, Saracens' dynamic hooker, Schalk Brits, and Piri Weepu, a World Cup-winner with New Zealand in 2011 who has moved to Wasps until the end of the season.

In the Challenge Cup, Lee Byrne of the Dragons and Exeter Chiefs' former England flanker, Tom Johnson, are also included in the clubs' European squads.

Under EPCR tournament rules, clubs which have qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions Cup and the Challenge Cup can nominate up to three players for registration to supplement their initial 38-player European squads.

The registrations of players who were nominated by the deadline of midday Thursday, 19 March are subject to confirmation by the relevant Unions and by EPCR.

Each club which has qualified for the knockout stages may nominate up to three players to supplement its initial 38-player European squad.

Where clubs choose to nominate the maximum of three players, at least one of the players must be qualified to play in a front row position.

The players must have been fully and properly registered by Thursday, 19 March 2015 with nominations subject to confirmation by the relevant Union and EPCR.

Clubs must ensure that the nominated players have not been selected in a match squad by another club in the same tournament during the current season.
