Hosea Gear is set to return to the Top 14 next season with Clermont with a deal expected to be completed in the coming days.
The Chiefs winger had returned to New Zealand this season after spells in Japan and with Toulouse, but is set to miss out on the All Blacks World Cup squad.
As a result he is keen to return to France, where he impressed in his one season at Toulouse, and Clermont appear to be the front runners for his signature.
Les Jaunards were struggling for wingers next season after the departures of Napolioni Nalaga and Julien Malzieu, as well as Zac Guildford who left the club mid-season.
Waisake Naholo was expected to fill one of the gaps but now looks set to remain with the Highlanders after a breakout year.
As a result Clermont have had to act quickly, and have already added David Strettle and Adrien Planté to their ranks in the last few weeks.
And now the Midi Olympique is reporting that Gear will also join them, potentially on a three-year deal.
