Clermont have brought in cover for the injured Patricio Fernández by signing Stephen Brett as a medical joker.
Rising star Fernández was injured in Clermont’s away defeat to Toulouse two weeks ago and is expected to be sidelined for up to three months.
Brett, 31, has previously played in France for Bayonne and Lyon after starting out his career in Super Rugby with the Crusaders and Blues.
Clermont boss Franck Azéma explained the move to France 3 Auvergne, saying: “He will be in training with us from Tuesday and will help over the coming months to cover for the loss of Fernández and, not to get ahead of myself, the participation of Camille Lopez during the Six Nations.”
