Flank Calum Clark and lock Ed Slater have been ruled out of England's upcoming tour of Uruguay and Argentina.

Calum Clark and Ed Slater have been ruled out of England's upcoming tour of Uruguay and Argentina.

Flanker Clark has failed to recover from an ankle injury he suffered in the Saints' Aviva Premiership semi-final win over Saracens, while Slater suffered a recurrence of a tricep injury during Leicester's Premiership final victory on Saturday.

Wasps-bound lock Kearnan Myall has been called into the 31-man squad as a result.

“It's unfortunate for both Calum and Ed that they won't be able to join up with England this summer but I'm sure they will be back and pushing for places next season,” said coach Stuart Lancaster.

“Kearnan did well in a good team performance against the Barbarians and now has a great chance to continue his progress with us on tour.

“It means we travel with one player less than originally selected but we have lots of options in the second row and back row to cover for that.”

England play a tour match against a combined South American team in a tour match in Montevideo on Sunday before facing off against Argentina in a two-Test series.
