Grenoble made it ten points from a possible ten against Rovigo but were pushed all the way by the Italians.
Hooker Laurent Bouchet went over twice, while Robinson Caire and Chris Farrell ensured they had the bonus point.
However three yellow cards, to Geoffrey Messina, Thibault Rey and Louis Marrou allowed Rovigo to stay in touch.
In fact the French side played most of the last ten minutes with 13 men Grenoble held on to a three-point lead for the win.
