A welcome number of key players are set to return to action for the Brumbies this weekend against the Force, including Matt Toomua.

The Australia back will be joined by Pat McCabe, Josh Mann-Rea and Sam Carter, who all returned to training on Monday.

Joe Tomane is also expected to start after undergoing scans on an ankle injury on Monday, while Tevita Kuridrani should also be available, as will Scott Fardy.

The news was welcomed by director of rugby Laurie Fisher ahead of this weekend's massive fixture against the Force – with both teams tied on 40 points and in a shootout for a wildcard spot in the playoffs.

“All the guys are looking positive at this stage,'' Fisher told the Canberra Times.

“Sam Carter got through this morning's work, Josh Mann-Rea has done some work this morning and in the back-line Matt Toomua and Pat McCabe are looking good.

“It's been a long season for 'Fards'. He played in all three Tests [with the Wallabies] and it's important we don't wear guys out on the training paddock.

“He took it easy in the scrums today [Monday] but his lineout work and running was fine.''
