Enigmatic Fijian winger Rupeni Caucaunibuca has been released at his request by club side Agen after just four months of the season.

The 34-year-old made just three appearances in Pro D2 for the club he rejoined over the off-season, having previously spent six seasons playing for them between 2004 and 2010.

He returned to Fiji last month to be with his family, taking a long time to return to the club.

And Agen revealed in a statement that he had asked to be released, with club and player coming to an agreement this week.

Caucaunibuca had made his rugby comeback earlier in the year with Northland in the ITM Cup, with the hope of securing a Super Rugby contract for next season.

His only previous Super Rugby experience came with the Blues a decade ago, while he racked up ten tries in just eight Tests for Fiji and the Pacific Islanders.
