Castres sealed a 26-18 win over La Rochelle at Stade Marcel-Deflandre while Toulouse beat Racing 92 42-27 in Sunday's action.

La Rochelle 18-26 Castres

Castres moved up to sixth in the standings after beating La Rochelle at Stade Marcel-Deflandre to put their destiny in their own hands.

This away triumph sees them leapfrog both La Rochelle and Pau.

They led 10-3 at the interval thanks to a try from number eight Alex Tulou and a conversion and penalty from fly-half Benjamin Urdapilleta.

Alexi Bales would make it 10-6 with a penalty early in the second-half before Urdapilleta then slotted a drop-goal on 50 minutes for 13-6.

La Rochelle hit back with a try of their own from substitute Mohamed Boughanmi, which made it a 13-11 ball game, but a try from Armand Batlle on the hour handed Castres a handsome buffer, which was extended to 23-11 shortly afterwards when Urdapilleta landed his second penalty.

And despite Boughanmi grabbing his brace seven minutes from time, Castres would run out victors as Urdapilleta made it 26-18 late on.

Toulouse 42-27 Racing 92

Toulouse moved from fifth to second on the Top 14 table as they blew away Racing 92 on Sunday, winning 42-27 at Stade Ernest Wallon.

The rampant hosts were 28-6 up at the break thanks to tries from scrum-half Sebastien Bezy, fly-half Zack Holmes and left wing Maxime Medard, with full-back Thomas Ramos adding 13 points off the kicking tee.

Gael Fickou and Ramos would make it a 42-6 lead after 65 minutes, with the result in the bag as the visitors were struggling for answers.

But credit to Racing 92 who would finish with three tries – from Dimitri Szarzewski, Juan Imhoff and Joe Rokocoko – which at least denied Toulouse a bonus-point as the two teams are now tied on 70 points with just two matches remaining, six behind the pace-setting Montpellier.
