Canterbury were made to work hard for their second win of the ITM Cup campaign as they fought off Counties Manukau 20-15 at AMI Stadium.
The Steelers pushed Canterbury all the way in Christchurch and in fact scored one more try than their hosts as Jared Page and Sam Vaka both went over.
At half-time it was 6-5 to Canterbury thanks to Tom Taylor's two penalties and when number eight and captain Luke Whitelock scored eight minutes after the break, it looked like the home side were going to pull away at 14-5 to the good.
However, the Steelers recovered and were in the contest until full-time but Canterbury saw out the game and occupy second place behind Tasman.
