Canterbury charged to top spot on the ITM Cup standings and are now assured of a place in the semi-finals after dispatching Hawke's Bay 44-3 at McLean Park on Wednesday.

It was another dominant performance from the defending champions, who outscored the relegation-bound Magpies six tries to nill.

Hawke's Bay opened the scoring early on through the boot of Andrew Horrell, but it was all downhill from there as Canterbury raced to a 25-3 lead at the break and never looked back.

Canterbury will now shift their focus to securing a home play-off next week when they face Bay Of Plenty in the final round of the competition on Sunday in Christchurch.

Hawke's Bay on the other hand will need to beat Waikato tbis weekend to not only lift the Ranfurly Shield but also avoid being relegated from the Premiership.
