Canada ended a run of seven losses as they overcame Glasgow Warriors 19-12 at Graves-Oakley Memorial Park in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Saturday.

Kieran Crowley's charges were desperate to get a victory on the board before they head to England to finalise their preparations for the Rugby World Cup.

And they got their wish as tries from Jamie Cudmore, Ciaran Hearn and former Glasgow player DTH van der Merwe helped see off the travelling Warriors.

In reply, Glasgow's try-scorers were Glenn Bryce and Junior Bulumakau, but winger van der Merwe's effort on 78 minutes gave the Canadians victory.

Glasgow opened the scoring early when outside centre Bryce crossed but 11 minutes later second-row Cudmore went over for Canada. Nathan Hirayama's successful conversion pushed the home side 7-5 ahead.

Powerful back Hearn doubled Canada's tally with a converted score just before the half-hour mark and when Glasgow fly-half Rory Clegg was yellow-carded before the break, the hosts were in the ascendency and not wanting half-time.

The second period saw Glasgow launch a great deal of pressure on the Canadian line but solid defence, typified by Ospreys winger Jeff Hassler's try-saving tackle, kept the PRO12 champions out. The barrage was not over though.

In hot conditions in Halifax, Nova Scotia, water breaks were being taken and following the 60-minute fluids Glasgow continued their assault on Canada's try-line, with home second-row Evan Olmstead being yellow-carded in the process.

Nine minutes from time the Warriors managed to close the margin to two points when replacement Junior Bulumakau scored but two minutes from time up stepped former Warriors star van der Merwe to seal a vital victory for Canada.
