Springbok lock Flip van der Merwe is heading to Clermont after being granted an early release from his contract at the Blue Bulls.
The Bulls confirmed the news on Wednesday, meaning the 30-year-old will not feature in the Currie Cup this season.
Van der Merwe has been part of South Africa's squad in recent weeks but did not make their final 31 for the Rugby World Cup.
The Blue Bulls currently share top spot on the Currie Cup table with the Golden Lions having claimed bonus-point wins from all four of their games.
Meanwhile, Clermont lead the Top 14 having also made a perfect start to the season.
