Mourad Boudjellal appears to have put an end to the chances of Steffon Armitage joining Bath, claiming the back row will stay in Toulon.

The former England international had been linked to a shock move to the Premiership at the start of the week, only for the deal to fall through on Tuesday because of the inflated transfer fee involved.

And Toulon boss Boudjellal has now come out insisting Armitage will see out his contract with the reigning European champions, with the deal seemingly dead in the water after the back row was named in Toulon’s squad for Sunday’s Champions Cup game against the Scarlets.

“He’ll finish the season in Toulon, and he’ll be at RCT next year as well given that he extended his contract for three seasons last year,” said Boudjellal.

“With the English federation it wasn’t a question of words, but a question of numbers. Do you know how much Lionel Messi costs? I’m kind, I’ll cut it in two! But the player also has to agree to leave. And for now, he hasn’t come to see me.”
