Calling all Scarlets fans! We’re giving away three copies of a new book: “The Greatest Scarlets XV Ever” by Phil Bennett.

Who are the fifteen best players ever to wear the Scarlet jersey of Llanelli?

This is a debate which rages in the rugby hotbeds of west Wales as Willie John McBride says in his foreword to this book, ‘To read through The Greatest Scarlets XV Ever is to read the Who’s Who of rugby’.

Following on from the success of The Greatest Welsh XV Ever by Eddie Butler and The Greatest Welsh Tries Ever by Gerald Davies, Gomer Press invited arguably the greatest Scarlet of them all – Phil Bennett – to tackle this elusive question.

Phil teamed up with friend and co-author Alun Wyn Bevan to write the book and says:

“It’s the hardest job I’ve ever done in my life… it says such a lot that there were so many great players that made the task so very, very difficult and indeed I could have picked two or three teams such was the calibre of players available…”

Will you agree with his selection? Who would you choose at full back – Terry Davies or Terry Price? Will there be room for Derek and Scott Quinnell in the back row? And, surely, there can be only one logical choice at outside half?

Phil Bennett captained Llanelli, Wales, the Barbarians and the British Lions and is recognised the world over as one of rugby union’s legends. Or as Willie John McBride puts it: ‘He was from another planet… There was nothing this guy couldn’t do.’ He remains one of the most well-liked of former players, a shrewd but sympathetic analyst on television and radio and in his newspaper columns, and a devoted follower and President of his beloved Scarlets.

Alun Wyn Bevan is an experienced broadcaster, rugby commentator and retired headteacher and rugby referee. He is also highly regarded as a sports author with his Stradey Stories, St Helen’s Stories and Grav in his Own Words proving bestsellers.

So how do you win a copy? It’s easy!
