Edinburgh kept in touch with the PRO12 pace-setters after they overcame the Dragons with a bonus-point, winning 32-13 at Murrayfield on Friday.
In an impressive first-half performance from Edinburgh, Sam Hidalgo-Clyne kicked eight points, with WP Nel grabbing the only try of the half. The Dragons' only points of the half came from two Dorian Jones penalties.
A very one sided second-half saw tries for Alasdair Dickinson, Tom Brown and Matt Scott.
Whilst the Dragons scored a single try through Nic Cudd, they did pick up four yellow cards which saw them down to 14 and on occasions 13 men for a large majority of the half.
Against a Dragons side side that hadn't won away since March, it was no surprise that the home side opened the scoring through a Hidalgo-Clyne penalty. However, the Dragons hit back with a three points of their own from Jones after Edinburgh were penalised for collapsing the scrum.
After a good period of phase building from the home side, tighthead prop Nel powered his way over the line from close range for the first try of the game, with Hidalgo-Clyne adding the extras.
As Edinburgh began to find their rhythm, the Dragons gave away a score of penalties in their own 22. Hidalgo-Clyne added three points for the Scottish side, increasing their lead to ten points.
The Dragons clawed back three points from the boot of Jones to slow the Edinburgh momentum.
Nel was denied his second try of the match when his effort was ruled out for double movement.
The comeback became harder just after half-time when Dragons tighthead Boris Stankovich was shown yellow. With the one man advantage, Edinburgh pushed the scrum, forcing a number of penalties that eventually saw a second yellow card for the Dragons' Phil Price.
After repelling Edinburgh brilliantly with 13 men, the Dragons defence was finally broken when Dickinson went over in the corner. To compile the misery, Dragons fly-half Jones was shown yellow for a dangerous tackle to keep them at 13 men.
As Jones came back on to restore the Dragons to their full complement, replacement Cudd was given yellow for side entry.
Edinburgh finally pulled away with their third try through Brown and the Scottish outfit sealed the bonus-point against a depleted Dragons side in the final minutes with a try from Scott. The visitors then grabbed a consolation try at the death through Cudd.
