The Blues are hopeful that hooker Keven Mealamu will make his return to action against the Lions after missing their loss at the Bulls due to injury.
Sir John Kirwan's side went down 38-22 at Loftus Versfeld in a physical clash that saw the Bulls claim a try bonus-point in the closing minutes.
All Blacks hooker Mealamu was supposed to start the fixture but was a late withdrawal from the XV.
“He has a history of calf issues so there was no point risking Kevvy,” Kirwan told Fairfax NZ News.
“We should know by Monday or Tuesday if he'll be ready to go against the Lions. We are hopeful.”
