Blues head coach Sir John Kirwan has ruled out trying to sign Ma'a Nonu but is keen to bring Beauden Barrett to the Auckland franchise next season.
All Blacks centre Nonu is weighing up his options this off-season after another disappointing year in Super Rugby, this time with the Highlanders.
Kirwan though has admitted that it is unlikely the 31-year-old will be at the Blues in 2014, with youngster Francis Saili performing very well.
“I don't think Ma'a wants to come back to the Blues. Hurricanes would be where he would want to be. I don't think there's a spot here in those positions,” Kirwan told TVNZ.co.nz.
“We're pretty strong. We've got a young backline that's going to be very special in Francis Saili, Charles Piutau and Frank Halai.”
Kirwan meanwhile knows that Hurricanes star Barrett's signature will be high on several sides' wishlist as the young fly-half comes off contract.
“It's no secret Beauden Barrett is on the market but I'm sure I'm not the only person talking to him,” he added.
