Blue Bulls defence coach Pine Pienaar is in the dark about the possibility of joining the Springbok backroom staff for next month's tour of Europe.

It was reported in the South African media at the weekend that Springboks defence coach Chean Roux was relieved of his duties ahead of their end-of-year tour.

Pienaar and JP Ferreira, who is the Lions' defence coach, were mentioned as possible successors to fill the void on a short-term basis for the November tour only.

But Pienaar was mum when questioned about the speculation linking him to the role.

“No, I know nothing about it,” he told Netwerk24.

The Boks' battled on defence in 2016 and conceded 22 tries in six Rugby Championship fixtures with nine of those five-pointers scored in their final match of the tournament against the All Blacks in Durban.
