Crusaders boss Todd Blackadder was left bemused by the new changes to the bonus-point system in Super Rugby.
The competition is set to adopt the same system used in the Top 14, where a team is awarded a try bonus point if they outscore their opponent by three tries.
Blackadder's reaction to the change was less than enthusiastic when asked on Friday.
"It is a little bit bizarre," Blackadder told Fairfax Media.
"It just means we have to score three tries more than anyone else. It will be really interesting when it comes to decisions (on the field)."
The Crusaders head coach added that he hadn't been consulted on the switch ahead of the start of the season on February 26.
"Honestly, no. We just got flicked an email," he added.
"There hasn't really been a lot of consulting, to be honest, which is disappointing. But it is what it is. Like anything we will ask our players to adapt and get on with it."
