Beauden Barrett and Ardie Savea have been named joint 2016 Hurricanes Player of the Year at the team’s annual awards night in Wellington.
The Hurricanes management could not split the contributions of fly-half Barrett and openside flank Savea during the club’s run to its maiden Super Rugby title. They beat the Lions 20-3 in the final.
Barrett was the team’s and competition’s top points scorer with 223 points and steered the team through the play-offs with his tactical nous, goal kicking and game management.
Savea was consistently one of the team’s top performers from week one and finished the season as Super Rugby’s top tackler with 205. He was also awarded the Hurricanes Best and Fairest award for 2016.
Barrett and Savea dedicated their joint award to their teammates with both making special mention of the young tight five, the coaching staff, and the leadership of the their captain Dane Coles.
