Griquas hooker Ryno Barnes will appear before a Saru disciplinary committee on Thursday after his alleged verbal attack on referee Pro Legoete during his team’s Currie Cup match against the Blue Bulls at Loftus Versfeld last Saturday.

Barnes received a red card for the incident in the 72nd minute, which was in breach of Law 10.4 (m) and (s).

Law 10.4 (m) states that a player must not do anything that is against the spirit of good sportsmanship in the playing enclosure, while Law 10.4 (s) states that all players must respect the authority of the referee and must not dispute the referee’s decisions.

The hearing will take place on Thursday in Kimberley.

Advocate Pieter Fischer has been appointed the Judicial Officer.
