Wales' Six Nations hopes suffered a blow when it was revealed that Scarlets lock Jake Ball has been sidelined for 10 weeks with a knee injury.

According to the South Wales Evening Post, the 24-year-old sustained a medial ligament tear in the Scarlets' 27-26 Boxing Day loss to the Ospreys at Parc y Scarlets.

The injury means the 24-year-old is set to miss Wales' Six Nations opener against Ireland in Dublin on February 7 as well as matches against Scotland and France.

Ball was competing with Bradley Davies and Luke Charteris to be Alun Wyn Jones' secnd row partner in Wales' clash with Ireland.

The injury is also a setback for the Scarlets, who are currently lying at the top of the PRO12.
