Enrico Bacchin has been called up by Italy coach Jacques Brunel to replace the injured Luca Morisi who pulled out of the World Cup.
Morisi was ruled out of the tournament on Wednesday after picking up a knock against Wales last weekend, and Brunel has gone with Treviso centre Bacchin to replace him.
The 22-year-old made his Test debut during the Six Nations in the win away in Scotland, and trained with the squad during their World Cup preparations.
He will join up with the rest of the squad on Saturday before they fly out to England the following day.
Italy kick off their World Cup campaign against France at Twickenham on September 19, and are also waiting on the fitness of skipper Sergio Parisse, who is struggling with a leg injury.
