Ayerza focused on Tigers run-in

Prop Marcos Ayerza believes that with so much to play for at the business end of the Aviva Premiership season, Leicester Tigers have chosen the perfect time to peak.

With four games remaining the Tigers occupy the final play-off place, although the race to secure a top-four finish couldn’t be closer with three points currently separating Saracens in second and Exeter Chiefs in fifth.

A run of four straight Aviva Premiership wins, including a 25-18 win over play-off rivals the Chiefs last time out, have Richard Cockerill’s men playing with the confidence needed to mount a title charge.

And with a trip to Allianz Park to face Saracens lying in wait this Saturday, Ayerza insists his side have a chance to prove their title credentials.

"In the business end of the season everything matters and every point is key for the top six teams,” said the 32-year-old.

"It is amazing how the Aviva Premiership has become so competitive this year and it can only be a good thing for the league and for English rugby.

"We have an exciting run-in and the pressure is there on everyone to perform with a lot up for grabs at the end of it.

"For the Tigers to be in with a shot of the title at this time of the year is great and with players coming back from international duty and injury we will be playing our best rugby.

"We want to be champions and beat the best and that is what we plan to do in this run-in, starting with Saracens.”

It doesn’t get much easier after this weekend either as after a home fixture against London Welsh, Leicester must also face Wasps and league-leaders Northampton Saints.

But Argentine Ayerza wouldn’t have it any other way, insisting these will be the games during which his side can show just how much of a contender they are.

"We've got Saracens, Wasps and Northampton Saints to play," he added.

"It’s good to play against the teams looking for that top-four finish and we are flowing in confidence and we need to carry that on to peak and finish strongly."
