Controversial playmaker Kurtley Beale will fly out to join the Wallaby squad in Europe this weekend the ARU have confirmed.

Beale has not featured for Australia since an in-flight incident between South Africa and Argentina ahead of the final round of the Rugby Championship, and was tangled up in a disciplinary matter concerning offensive text messages sent to former team manager Di Patston.

He was eventually fined AU$45,000 but was not suspended, and having been left out of the initial squad for the November Tests, he has now been called up.

“The Qantas Wallabies have made two changes to their squad with backrower Jake Schatz and playmaker Kurtley Beale to join the team in Dublin ahead of next Saturday’s match against Ireland,” said an ARU statement.

“Their inclusion comes with experienced backrower Scott Higginbotham returning to Australia after being unable to overcome a hamstring injury he initially suffered in the opening game of the Spring Tour against the Barbarians.”

Beale and Schatz are heading straight to Dublin, where they will join the rest of the squad on Sunday.

Since Beale’s last appearance for Australia Ewen McKenzie has stepped down as head coach, with former Waratahs boss Michael Cheika taking over.

Cheika and Beale know each other well, and Beale was first choice at inside centre for the Waratahs this year as they claimed a maiden Super Rugby crown.
