Grant Bashford and Hugh Reece-Edwards will head the Sharks ship for the remainder of their Super Rugby campaign following John Plumtree's departure.
Plumtree was told earlier in the month that his contract, which was due to expire later in the year, would not be renewed and while the Kiwi initially appeared set to continue at the helm until the conclusion of the Super Rugby season, it was decided on Tuesday that the two parties would part ways with immediate effect.
Brendan Venter has been appointed the director of rugby at the Durban outfit, with former Sharks flanker Brad MacLeod-Henderson rumoured to be named their new head coach. However, the appointment of a new coach will only be made ahead of the Currie Cup and in the meantime Bashford and Reece-Edwards, who served as Plumtree's assistants, will take charge.
“With the exception of John Plumtree, the Sharks coaching structure will remain unchanged for the remainder of the Super Rugby tournament. Assistant coaches Grant Bashford and Hugh-Reece Edwards will assume the main coaching responsibilities for our remaining three games,” the Sharks said in a statement.
