Steffon Armitage has reportedly informed Toulon owner Mourad Boudjellal that he wants to return to the Premiership in order to play for England.

Boudjellal revealed the request from his star flanker when speaking on Eurosport on Monday.

Armitage, 30, joined Toulon five years ago from London Irish and has enjoyed huge success with the three-time European champions, including being named European Player of the Year in 2014.

Boudjellal revealed that Armitage had been in contact with England head coach Eddie Jones and that he was willing to let him leave – for the right price.

"Steffon Armitage came to me and told me he had the opportunity to play for England," Boudjellal explained.

"Eddie Jones called him.

"He is under contract. I could let him go to an English club but he has a price. It's expensive."

Armitage was linked with a move to Bath last season which ultimately fell through. He has since been linked with a move to high-spending Wasps.
