Argentina are stepping up their preparations in their camp in Sydney ahead of their Rugby Championship opener.

Stormers second row Manuel Carizza will link up with the squad on Sunday and begin training with the squad the following day.

Raul Perez, Emiliano Bergamaschi and Pablo Bouza are working with the pack to build on their strong performances in last year's internationals.

Bergamaschi hopes that area of the set-piece will remain a major strength for Los Pumas as they reunite ahead of the tournament.

"On Thursday we had our first scrum practice and used it to put us all on the same page, as there were some players who haven't been with us since November," said Bergamaschi.

"On Saturday we had a more intense practice, with more scrum work and smoothed out any problems that emerged.

"We're working on continuing the improvement of our scrum. It was a weapon that gave us plenty of reward in both the Rugby Championship last year and in the November Tests and made us feel very confident.

"However, we must keep improving the quality of our feeds into the scrum."
