Following Monday's announcement that Nigel Davies is leaving Gloucester, defence coach Paul Moriarty is also departing.

Following Monday's announcement that Gloucester have parted company with Director of Rugby Nigel Davies, the club can now confirm that Defence Coach Paul Moriarty is also to leave Kingsholm.

The former dual code international joined Gloucester Rugby as Defence Coach in July 2012 as one of Nigel Davies' first appointments, the two having worked together previously at the Scarlets.

However, with Gloucester set to make changes in the back room team for the 2014-15 season, CEO Stephen Vaughan confirmed that Moriarty's contract is not being renewed.

“Firstly I would like to thank Paul for all his efforts over the past two seasons. He's worked incredibly hard at the role, no-one can fault his application and dedication,” said Vaughan.

“However, defence is one of the most important facets of the modern game and we plan to introduce a new approach and philosophy in that area.

“Accordingly, we feel that with a new Director of Rugby being sought, it's only right and proper that we allow that individual to have a say in the recruitment of new Coaches.

“Paul is now out of contract and we have informed him that his contract will not be renewed. He's naturally disappointed but understands the rationale. We would like to wish him well for the future.”
