England Sevens head coach Simon Amor remained proud of his squad despite their early exit from the Commonwealth Games.

Samoa saw off the 2010 silver medallists by a single point with a 15-14 victory in the semi-final.

England will face Scotland in the Plate semi-final as a bid to restore some pride.

Amor pinpointed that the execution from his squad wasn't up to standard, as they played on without injured captain Tom Mitchell.

“I am incredibly proud of the effort the guys showed right the way through this weekend,” said Amor.

“Their heart, desire and attitude was all excellent, but unfortunately our decision-making and execution at wasn't good enough for the highest level. As a result we didn't take our chances.

“We came here with the mission of winning it and we knew that if we played to our potential we could do that, so of course it is hugely disappointing but that's the way sevens goes.

“We will take ourselves away, switch off a bit and then put in a performance. We still have a lot to play for.

“There is of course the pride of the shirt and a couple of guys are playing in the sevens shirt for the last time as well.”
