With South Africa playing the Barbarians outside of the official November Test window, the Springboks will be without 15 of their 31-man Rugby Championship squad.
South Africa play the Barbarians at Wembley on November 5.
14 of the current squad members will not be able to play due to being under foreign club contracts while lock Lood de Jager will be serving his one-match suspension for a dangerous tackle against the All Blacks in Durban.
Five Lions players – Warren Whiteley, Jaco Kriel, Franco Mostert, Elton Jantjies and Lionel Mapoe – have all joined their Japanese clubs for the remainder of the season which disqualifies them from the Barbarians game and the remainder of the Currie Cup.
The fixture clashes with Round 10 of the Top 14 in France, ruling out Willem Alberts, Johan Goosen, Bryan Habana, Steven Kitshoff and Morne Steyn.
There are no fixture in England that weekend, but Premiership clubs are under no obligation to release players outside of the Test window, meaning coach Allister Coetzee will have to do without Willie le Roux, Francois Hougaard, Francois Louw and Vincent Koch.
There is full weekend of Pro12 fixtures also scheduled to November 4 and 5, further limiting options for calling in players based in the UK and Ireland.
