A product of Grey College in Bloemfontein, the flanker is another in-form player to have made the cut, belatedly at least.
The Cheetahs number six was originally left out of the squad in favour of a recovering Schalk Burger. However, the Stormers' wrecking ball has been ruled out of the first Test, with Brüssow given another chance to disrupt the British & Irish Lions breakdown like he did on June 6.
Still remarkably only 22, his Springbok future could be a long and profitable one if he transfers his Super 14 form onto the international stage. The Lions will hope that is not the case.
