- Name:Andries Bekker
- Date of Birth:December 05, 1983
- Place of Birth:Goodwood, South Africa
Bekker followed in the footsteps of dad Hennie by becoming a Springbok in 2008.
He made his Test debut against Wales in Bloemfontein and started all three of South Africa's home Tri-Nations matches (he scored his first Test try, against Australia in Johannesburg).
Bekker's Springbok selection was forced by his consistent brilliance throughout the Super 14, where many acknowledged him as the form lock of the competition. He was equally impressive during his brief stint in the Currie Cup, scoring five tries in one match against the Falcons at Newlands.
At 2.08m he is the tallest player in the Bok squad, and is a towering presence in the line-outs. He is also a terrier in the loose, showing surprising speed for such a big man, and the upping of his work rate has been one of the distinctive features of a successful career.
A toe injury has sidelined Bekker for the most part of the Super 14 this year, but his absence to the Stormers' forgettable season only reaffirmed his value to any team.
