Jamie Heaslip heads out to South Africa basking in the glow of Ireland's Grand Slam triumph.

Heaslip's performances during Ireland's run to the 2004 Under-21 World Cup final marked him out as one to watch.

Fast forward five years and the Leinster number eight is firmly established as a key player for both club and country.

He made his Test debut against the Pacific Islanders in November 2006 but missed out on Ireland's 2007 World Cup squad due to the abundance of back-row talent in the Emerald Isle.

But Heaslip could not be ignored forever. He duly became a regular at international level during the 2008 Six Nations and was an integral part of the side that won the Grand Slam 12 months later.

His 6ft 4in, 17-stone plus frame and direct approach, coupled with impressive handling skills and relish of a scrap, could make him a big hit on the hard pitches and altitude the Lions will encounter in South Africa.
