The Sale prop was a tourist in the Lions 2005 tour, despite only having a solitary England cap but he did not play in any Test matches. However, he played some midweek games and was highly impressive.
He is unusually tall for his position, standing 6' 5", but this added height only seems to add power to his already demolishing nature.
In an autumn international at Twickenham in 2005, neither Australian prop finished the game as Al Baxter was sin-binned after failing to deal with 'The Beast of Bromley's' strength - leading to repeatedly collapsed scrums. Whilst Matt Dunning suffered a neck injury; this was where Sheridan's fearsome scrummager reputation was made.
This was then backed up in the 2007 World Cup when he once again took apart an Australian pack, a performance that made the rest of the world sit up and take notice of the Sale Shark.
The 29 year-old has built a reputation as one of the most formidable opponents in the world and The Lions will be hoping that his inclusion could strike a chord of fear with the Springboks.
