Standing at 6 foot 8 inches, the giant lock has become integral to Wasps and has already been involved in two previous Lions squads, but has yet to appear in a Lions Test side.
His obvious physical presence makes him a daunting opponent.
Shaw made his England debut against Italy in 1996 and was called up to the Lions' tour of South Africa the following year, but failed to appear in the Test side.
He was a late replacement in England's World Cup winning 2003 squad after Danny Grewcock suffered an injury, earning him an MBE for his success despite not playing a game. He was also a replacement in the 2005 Lions tour of New Zealand after Irish lock Malcolm O'Kelly aggravated a groin injury.
Shaw has been plagued by injuries in his career which led to him missing the 2007 World Cup.
He possesses an array of club trophies including four Premiership titles and two Heineken Cups and is also the only lock to have ever scored a Premiership drop-goal
He has gone on to win 50 England caps, scoring 10 points in the process.
Shaw will be looking to replicate the performances he showed in the 2007 World Cup when he was England's stand-out player on route to the final.
