Roberts' imposing 6'4'' frame and raw pace make him a dangerous finisher from all over the pitch.
Roberts originally began as a full-back, but was used almost exclusively on the wing during the 2007/8 season. His first cap also came on the wing, but it proved to be his only appearance during Wales' 2008 Grand Slam triumph.
In 2008 Roberts started all of Wales' autumn internationals in the centre and despite suffering a fractured skull in the win over Australia, has since returned to full fitness and is a potent force in the midfield for the Blues.
Probably an unlikely starter for the Lions, he will be seen primarily as a back-up to more experienced centres.
But if the rate of attrition we have seen in pervious Lions tours is repeated, he could well end up earning a Test cap.
