James Horwill: Will learn his fate on Monday

The International Rugby Board's appeal of Australia captain James Horwill's stamping case will be heard on Monday.

The Australian Rugby Board said Saturday that the appeal will be heard by Canada's Graeme Mew by video conference.

The IRB took the rare move of appealing against the original decision which cleared Horwill of stamping on British and Irish Lions lock Alun-Wyn Jones in the first Test last weekend, a move which has "surprised and disappointed" the ARU.

The original decision by New Zealand-based judicial officer Nigel Hampton determined that there was no act of foul play. But the IRB said it wanted to "further examine potential acts of foul play which either potentially or in reality impact on the preservation of player welfare."
